How does my child qualify for the SOAR program?

  • Children qualify for the SOAR gifted program by achieving a 128+ on the CogAT or by scoring in the 95th percentile or above in reading or math.

How does my child receive gifted services through the SOAR program?
  • Language Arts: Students are stretched as they read above grade level novels, are challenged to think critically about a text, engage in projects that involve choice and creativity, and they participate in a variety of discussion formats such as literature circles and shared inquiry.
  • Math: Students are stretched as they solve multi-step problems, engage in enrichment math activities that require critical thinking, and as they apply mathematical skills to real world problems and projects.
  • Cardinal Time: Students take ownership of their learning as they pursue topics of interest through independent studies, engage in project-based learning, assemble products to showcase their learning, and gain experience presenting in front of an authentic audience at our SOAR Expo Nights.
  • Extracurricular Opportunities: Students in the SOAR program have the opportunity to participate in Destination ImagiNation and Math Tournament.
